OIL CITY wasn't always known by that name. When we first moved here in 2002, we read and were told that it's original name was ANANIAS. We named our home ANANIAS HOUSE. In this recent documentary, they stated that the original name of the town was SURREY, and now we are totally confused. In either case, in the early days of the town, HOWARD HUGHES SR was the postmaster, and he got the name changed to OIL CITY.
